Gath confident ahead of TAB Trot

Andy Gath’s confidence is growing by the day.

At first the top Aussie trainer hoped his classy mare Im Ready Jet could be competitive in the $600,000 TAB Trot, but now he thinks she can win it with luck.

“It’s like everything is coming together at the right time,” he said. “She’s really in the zone.

“We weren’t sure where she was at until about a week or so before she ran first-up this campaign and then she started working well at home.

“She’s had the two wins back and her work at home just before she fly to Auckland (Thursday) was terrific.”

Gath said Im Ready Jet handled the trip well and had settled in at Michelle Wallis’ stables.

“Michelle’s looking after her until Kate and I get there and she said the mare seems bright and has been eating up well,” he said.

Under the preferential barrier draw conditions, Im Ready Jet and Queen Elida will draw barriers one and two (order to be determined) at Tuesday night’s draw.

“It’s a big help, especially around a track like Cambridge,” Gath said. “We’d probably prefer two just so we don’t get shuffled too far back on the inside because she’s not naturally quick at the start.

“It’s just great to have her at her top when it matters and the race is looking quite even.

“On what we saw last night (at Cambridge), Oscar Bonavena is clearly the best of the Kiwis and then you’ve got The Locomotive as the pick of the Aussies.

“I’m sure our mare will be competitive and it’s not beyond her to win it the way she’s going.

“It’s exciting to be part of what should be a great night.” - Adam Hamilton.
